The Legacy of Theo: Remembering Malcolm-Jamal Warner
The sudden loss of Malcolm-Jamal Warner has left millions of fans reeling as we process the shocking news of his drowning in Costa Rica at just 54 years old. For so many of us who grew up gathering around our televisions on Thursday nights, Theo Huxtable wasn't just a character – he was the brother we never had, the son we related to, or the friend who made us laugh through our own teenage struggles.
Today's episode takes a heartfelt journey through the impact Malcolm-Jamal Warner had on our lives, from those iconic Cosby Show moments (remember that disastrous Gordon Gartrell shirt?) to his impressive behind-the-scenes work directing shows like Malcolm & Eddie and Kenan & Kel. We explore how the Huxtable family became an extension of our own families, creating weekly rituals that bonded us together in laughter and love before the era of smartphones and social media divided our attention.
The tragic circumstances of Warner's death – being swept away by a powerful current while vacationing with his family – serve as a sobering reminder about water safety, especially since another man was also caught in the same current and remains in critical condition. Warner's passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from co-stars including Eddie Griffin and Tracee Ellis Ross, who remember him not just for his talent but for his warmth, kindness, and commitment to fighting against Hollywood stereotypes.
As we share our memories and raise a glass to an actor who helped shape an entire generation, we're reminded that Malcolm-Jamal Warner's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his work. His own words resonate deeply today: "There's a generation of young people who pursued higher education or started loving families because of the influence of that show." What better testament could there be to a life well-lived? Share your favorite Theo moments or how The Cosby Show impacted your family traditions in the comments below.

Speaker 1:Y'all, it's a sad one today. I know everybody's heard the news about the mysterious passing. I guess it's not mysterious, it's just unbelievable. You know that water is something else. Y'all and y'all know I spend a lot of time at the beach and one thing about it when I go to the beach, I try not to go too far out.
Speaker 1:I'm a good swimmer. I'm not a great swimmer, but I'm a very, very, very good swimmer. And even if you're a great swimmer, water is powerful and I've heard too many stories and so many stories of people getting swept out and never seen again. As a matter of fact, the young lady I can't remember her name offhand that went on a college trip and she met a gentleman and they went out to the beach and authorities say the water swept her out. But a lot of people thought it had something to do with the guy. I forgot the young lady's name, the most recent missing person. No, no, not Naika or something like that. I'm sorry, I don't have the name with me, but who knows what happened. But the story is we lost Theo y'all.
Speaker 1:And thank you, ebony Alexander, for becoming a new YouTube member. You just made my day. I'm trying to get more YouTube members. So if y'all want to join, ebony Alexander, please get your YouTube membership. I would greatly appreciate it and welcome to the family, ebony.
Speaker 1:But we're going to get into how many people like me grew up on the Cosby Show. Put a one in the chat. If you watched the Cosby Show back in the day, me and my family at the time, my parents were together. That's how long ago the Cosby Show was out. My parents were actually together and my sister was born. My brother wasn't born yet, I don't think, but if he was, he was a baby. But every Thursday at 8 o'clock pm, I don't care what was going on. I don't care if I was in trouble, I don't care if my parents were mad at each other. Hey Juice, every Thursday at 8 pm we would get together and we would watch the Cosby show and it was like one of my favorite family things to do. It was just the unity behind it. That was like it was like the Super Bowl every Thursday. We did not miss it. That was like it was like the Super Bowl every Thursday. We did not miss it.
Speaker 1:And Theo and Denise and Bud and Rudy Y'all seen some of my little singing karaoke videos. I've used some of the songs that they did on the Cosby show, some of those old school songs, those old school songs. So yesterday when I got the news that Malcolm Jamal Warner, aka Theo, passed in an accidental drowning, it messed me up. I said not Theo, theo was like the big brother that I never had. I see we got a lot of Cosbyers in there. Yeah, theo was like the big brother I never had.
Speaker 1:And the Huxtables was like an extension of my family, because my family for the most part in general was a pretty successful family, by you know, relative to other families. We were really close. We got together, we sang, we danced, we laughed. We were put on punishment like Theo and Rudy, so it was relatable. Punishment like Theo and Rudy, so it was relatable. And when you see somebody like that, who really impacted your life past, especially from some drowning in water, it just really makes you realize y'all we have to that water is something else, man. It is a big, massive, powerful body of liquid that is stronger than any of us could ever possibly be. I don't care if you, mike Phelps, the right rip current will take your ass the fuck out, and that's what happened.
Speaker 1:We're going to get into an article about it, but I don't know if y'all have some favorite episodes, but I talked about it on my social media. If you follow me on Instagram, facebook or TikTok, you get all the breaking news and my little three, three, four minute breakdown. But the one episode I talked about is that I don't know if you all remember the Gordon Gartrell shirt Classic, classic Cosby episode. Theo was trying to impress a young lady by the name of Tanya at his school young lady by the name of Tanya at his school and he wanted to impress her by wearing a shirt. That was some made-up designer that they made up on a show called the Gordon Gartrell.
Speaker 1:Now, in the 1980s the Gordon Gartrell cost $95. And you know, cheap-ass Heath, even though his parents, claire and he, uh, heathcliff or cliff huck I mean cliff, cliff huxtable even though they were doctors and lawyers, y'all know they were very cheap and they didn't believe in spending a lot of money on on shit, especially materialistic things. So 95 in the 80s was like I don't know what y'all would think. That's about 500, five, six, seven hundred dollars. Now I don't know, I know, I know 95 it was a lot of freaking money in the 80s. So of course, clip and claire was not about to spend no fucking hundred dollars on no shirt for theo. And Theo wasn't even a good student. If y'all remember, theo was probably like a C student at best.
Speaker 1:But anyway, denise, theo's sister, thought of a good idea. She said I can make a Gordon Gartrell shirt. So Theo showed her what they looked like and what he wanted. Long story short, the shirt came out with one sleeve was long. One sleeve was too long for Theo's arm. The other sleeve was too short for his arm. The sleeve was too short for his arm. The collars were asymmetrical, one hanging down to his chest. Uh, the shirt was a freaking mess. It was the worst looking shirt you ever heard of you ever saw in your life. But I remember that episode. We were cracking up and everybody in the neighborhood wanted a gordon gartrell. I wanted a fucked up shirt like Theo, I wanted a horrible looking shirt like that, and from then on that became the joke. If you saw a knockoff, some type of materialistic designer knockoff, you would call it a Gordon Gartrell. You would call it a Gordon Gartrell.
Speaker 1:But just so many different little episodes. I remember the episode when he moved out and got his own I think it was his own apartment and it was like run down and messed up and Cliff and Claire went to go see him and they couldn't believe their son was living in such filth. Uh, another classic episode when they sung that song when rudy was like baby, whatever that song was oh baby. Uh, just so many classic episodes. And oh, yeah, the track suits malcolm drown. Yeah, I believe that. Yeah, I, I, and and the thing is. And the thing is, kristin, it's really messed up. To see all of the clips this guy was a hundred percent healthy and and and to see, like when they showing all the clips of right before this happened it just what the hell? Like, I don't know.
Speaker 1:Let's get into a little bit of the facts. We could do some reminiscing throughout the throughout the thing. Night and day, yes, he said night and day, him and his friends Cockroach. Oh yeah, i-tuck said night and day, him and his friends Cockroach. Oh yeah, I forgot about Cockroach. Cockroach was the original, like Cole from Martin, the original friend who was not very bright but funny as hell. Cockroach man, y'all got to continue to drop some of this. Y'all got to continue to drop some of nostalgia in these chats. Man, as I'm going through this article, we're going to go back and forth, but that's a good one, anitra, him and his friend Cockroach. I forgot about Cockroach.
Speaker 1:Cockroach was something else. Cockroach was always getting Theo into some shit and Theo was always a willing participant in getting into some shit and his father, cliff, was always pissed about the decisions that Theo would make. But somehow by the end of the episode it would all come together and real quick y'all. We see somebody. We got a new fan of the show because I notice every time I start the show he comes up here and listens. So everybody say hi to the boy. I don't want to say his name because he's going to come running over here.
Speaker 1:Ever since the first episode yesterday. That was the first episode he sat in. As soon as I started this episode he came up from the back and came to see me. He stood down and got a front row seat at the show. Thank you always go.
Speaker 1:Good bye, I'm back, y'all. Yeah, the computer, yeah, is it better now? Is it better now? Let me know if y'all can hear me better now. The Wi-Fi is a little low. Wi-fi signal is low today. Y'all, I don't know why it's still doing it. You can hear me. It's frozen. Okay, some people saying they can hear me. Fine, sorry, everybody's saying yes, all right, we can continue now. I don't know what's, the Wi-Fi's a little choppy today. But yeah, juice has a front row seat. Apparently he's a new fan of the show. He made it specific. As soon as I came up here talking, as soon as I said wake up, wake up, wake up, he came up here to get a front row view.
Speaker 1:But let me go back, hey, uh, ebony, can you, can you explain to libby how to become a member? Um, I'm not sure how to explain it right now. Um, I would have to look, because I don't exactly know, but I know there is a member button somewhere on the YouTube. There's a member button and you click that and you become a member. But maybe, ebony, maybe you can help Libby Bear. But yeah, I saw a question I was trying to get to. Somebody was asking about a red flag. I'm trying to find it. Somebody asked a question I saw about. Okay, here it is, let's see what the question Do you think the red flag was up on the beach when Malcolm went into the ocean? I wonder if they put up the red flag after he died.
Speaker 1:After he died, um, we're gonna get into that y'all, because there allegedly or apparently, was another, um, another, another man who is in critical condition after malcolm jamal warner was pulled out and pronounced dead. There's another guy. So let's, so let's get into some of these articles. We'll continue to reminisce throughout this show, but I definitely want to get into kind of what the hell happened first for those that might not have, might not have, might not know what the hell went on. So let's take this from the New York Post. New York Post it's Malcolm Jamal Warner was rescued by bystanders, declared lifeless after being pulled from the water. Okay, it says, good Samaritans tried to rescue Malcolm Jamal Warner after he accidentally drowned, but it was too late.
Speaker 1:The Cosby Show actor died on Sunday, july 20th, at the age of 54, while on vacation in Costa Rica with his family. You know how tragic. And you know we all do stuff with our family. Y'all see, I do stuff with my family. We go to Cal Hari, we do, we do a lot, we enjoy family time. I'm sure many of you guys enjoy your family time. The worst thing that you, the unimaginable is you're enjoying some family time and somebody dies or has some crazy accident, and so I'm just picturing y'all that he's out with his family in Costa Rica and next thing you know, malcolm Jawad Warner is drowning. I mean, can you imagine that Next thing you know, malcolm Jawad Warner is drowning? I mean, can you imagine that Costa Rican National Police told the Post that Warner was pulled from the water by people in the area and taken to shore, where they desperately attempted to save his life?
Speaker 1:New details have now emerged about Warner's final moments. The Judicial Investigation Agency are sharing additional information about their efforts. This is a call. The victim appears to have entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current. The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore where he received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross. However, he was declared lifeless at the scene. At the scene, the actor's body was taken to the morgue at the San Joaquin de Flores for an autopsy, with his cause of death listed as asphyxiation by submersion. The Costa Rican National Police shared on Monday, july 21st.
Speaker 1:Warner played the beloved character we all know as Theodore Huxtable, aka Theo, the son of Cliff Huxtable, on the Cosby Show from 1984 to 1992. So my son, I mean my brother was born for a few of those years. The role landed him in 1986 emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. Now, a of things people didn't know about Theo A lot of y'all may know he directed Malcolm and Eddie, a show with him and Eddie Griffin. That did pretty good. Didn't reach the Cosby success, but not many shows do. Also, he did some directing on the show Kenan and Kel, a famous Nickelodeon show that a lot of our younger generation grew up on. I caught the tail end of it, but Malcolm Jamal Warner directed that. Another thing people didn't know about don't know about Malcolm Jamal Warner.
Speaker 1:He directed y'all remember the new edition song Any Heartbreak. I can't sing it, but it'd be like she got it going on, going on, going on. She got it going on, get going on. And they had the yellow on and Ralph Transvantman had the stretch pants. Ralph transman had on the black stretch pants with the little uh, the little elastic by the heel that used to keep the stretch pants pulled down. A really funny choice of clothing. Anyway, malcolm Malcolm Jamal Warner actually directed that video. So he directed a huge video for a new edition.
Speaker 1:A lot of people didn't know that this guy was very talented and if you really just thought about Theo, you wouldn't even know how you know you compared him to Theo. You just wouldn't even think or realize that Malcolm Jamal Warner was very talented or realize that Malcolm Jamal Warner was very talented and he was actually named after Malcolm X Another fact that I'm sure a lot of you didn't know that Malcolm Jamal Warner was named after Malcolm X. Warner was joined on the screen by the rest of the Tuxedo TV family, which included Felicia Rashad as Claire, sabrina LaBeouf as Sandra, lisa Bonet as Denise, tempest Bledsoe as Vanessa and Keisha Knight Pulliam as Rudy. The star didn't audition for the role of Theo until the final day of the comedy's nationwide search and was handpicked by Cosby himself, warner. He was only 14 years old. Dio was 14 years old when he got that role.
Speaker 1:Warner spoke to the Post exclusively about the Cosby Show legacy in April 2021, just two months before Cosby's SA conviction was overturned. I can understand why some people can't watch the show and enjoy it because of everything that's going on now. Warner said he confessed that the lasting impression the Cosby show had in TV history was undeniable. But I think there's a generation of young people who have pursued higher education or have started loving families because of the influence of that show. So it's kind of like you can't discount its impact on television culture and American culture. Well said, warner continued to act for decades to come after the series ended in 1992. He went on to voice the producer in the Magic School Bus from 1994 to 1997. However, his next major role came in 1996 when he was cast as Malcolm McGee in Malcolm and Eddie. Warner starred in all 89 episodes alongside Eddie Griffin until the sitcom went off the air in the year 2000.
Speaker 1:Eddie Griffin broke his silence on Warner's death just hours after the news broke. Eddie Griffin said my heart is heavy today For what the world lost was a father, son, a poet, a musician, an actor, a teacher, a writer, a director, a, a friend and a warrior that I had the pleasure of going to war with against the hollywood machine, and sometimes with you, with each other, because what that's what brothers are. Sometimes we, we go to war with each other, but but we do everything we do, but the love was always and is always there. Griffin concluded you've taught me so much and I thank you. Rest well, big little brother Warners. Read between the lines.
Speaker 1:Co-star Tracy Ellisoss also addressed his unexpected passing. The pair played husband and wife on the short-lived sitcom, which only saw two seasons between 2011 and 2015. This is what tracy ellis ross wrote I, malcolm. First I met you as Theo with the rest of the world. Then you were my first TV husband. My heart is so sad. What an actor and a friend you were. Warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny and elegant. You made the world a brighter place. She wrote, sending so much love to your family. I'm so sorry for this unimaginable loss. This is a sad one man. The more I read and the more I realize people love Malcolm, paul Warren and everybody who speaks on him speaks so highly. This is just a sad one. This episode sorry y'all, this episode kind of seems like a funeral right now, but it's all about paying respects and the Cosby show, and Theo in particular, was such an impactful part of my life.
Speaker 1:I feel like we just is one of those passings where we just got to dedicate some time and give it this proper respect, some time and give it its proper respect. So much drama going on every day with all the Diddy stuff and Trump and all of that. Sometimes you just got to stop and pay some respect to someone or something that has had a positive effect on all of us. I don't know any crazy, you know. I don't know no bad crazy stories about Malcolm Jamal Warner.
Speaker 1:Everything I know is positive and I really pay attention to that statement of Eddie Griffin saying him and Malcolm Jamal Warner went to war with the Hollywood machine. We go to war every day on this show with the machine and it's a fight that will never end. But it's also a fight we will never give up on. And, um, I know a big thing malcolm jamal warner and different people from the cosby show used to talk about is how hollywood will push the negative agenda on your show and want you to fit in certain stereotypes and want you to portray certain stereotypes, and I imagine that was some of the wars that Eddie Griffin, malcolm Jamal Warner, winning, went up against when they went up against Hollywood. So I've never met Malcolm Jamal Warner. I met Rudy plenty of times in Atlanta Well, keisha Knight Pulliam but everybody I've ever known around him just loved the guy and he just seemed like he was one of us and just seems like one of us.
Speaker 1:You have to be careful. We always end up with some mysterious. I'm not throwing no conspiracy theory, probably was just an accident, but it just when you're dealing with hollywood and it's not our fault, it's all the stuff we've seen in the past, all the stuff we've been through. Who knows what the fuck go on behind the scenes. The article goes on to say and we're gonna get to the second man who was in critical condition, because we need to pay attention to that. That's in the next article. Anyway, in 2018, warner joined the Resident as Dr AJ Austin, whom he played in 2023.
Speaker 1:Some of his other credits included American Story Big Show, american Crime Story, sweets, 911, community, sons of Anarchy here and Now and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, warner is survived by his wife and daughter, whom he chose to keep private. I know his wife and his daughter probably have to be a wreck right now To lose your father, a healthy father living his best life going. They say he was going to Costa Rica for rest and relaxation with the family, and everybody turning from Costa Rica for rest and relaxation with the family, and everybody returning from Costa Rica except Malcolm Jamal Warner Prayers to his daughter and his wife, y'all Prayers to his family. As sad as the world is right now, it pales in comparison to how sad, imagine, his wife and his daughter and the rest of his family are right now. But uh, here on the on the flow show, no filter.
Speaker 1:We're gonna do our part to honor him, honor his legacy, honor his memories, memories and just give him his proper respect, because we hoop and holler all the time about who ain't doing it right, who doing it wrong, who bowing down to the system. You know who's selling us out. We do a lot of hooping and hollering about that and what I try to do is make sure I spend more time, even more time, giving the flowers to the people who do it right and, in my opinion, malcolm Jamal Warner was one of the people in Hollywood who did it the right way, who didn't bow down to the Hollywood machine Hollywood machine. I do want to make sure that we spend time and give those people their credit and give them their respect, because I don't want to just be hooping and hollering about the fucking evil devils out there that we talk about all day long. They are out there and they piss me the fuck off. Sometimes we can get so caught up in talking about them we don't give the flowers to the people who do it right, and that's what I wanted to do today on today's show.
Speaker 1:Also, let's get to this second man, because this is new information. This also comes from the New York Post about a second man in critical condition after being swept away by that same current. From the New York Post Michael Jamal Warner drowning accident leaves a second man in critical condition after being swept away by a strong current. It says here. A second man was pulled out of the water at the Playa Grande Resort in Costa Rica just moments after the Cosby Show. Alum Malcolm Jamal Warner had drowned while swimming in that same water. Costa Rican first responders treated a second person at the scene where the actor was declared dead. This is crazy.
Speaker 1:Also, paramedics received reports of a water-related incident in Limon at around around 2 10 pm on Sunday. Once they arrived at the scene, they attended to two adult male patients. Authorities said that the two people were dragged by a water current at the beach, though did not disclose any other information. One man, who has not been named, was rushed to a local clinic in coalition. Officials told the outlet. First responders performed CPR on the second individual, who was identified as Malcolm Jamal Warner, but he died on the scene. The scene was subsequently handed over to the police and authorities for the appropriate legal procedures. The post reached out to the costa rican red cross for further comment, but no, no comment was made. Costa rican national police on monday told the post that warner was pulled from the water by people in the area area and taken to the shore where they desperately attempted to save his life, and then after that they weren't able to save him. The actor's body was taken to the morgue and they listed what his cause of death was basically drowning. It's just a sad situation.
Speaker 1:I don't know if y'all have any stories, but that water is dangerous y'all, and let's just take it as an accident, Unless we find out some concrete evidence or some evidence where we find out it was something more than that. But as of right now, for what we know, right right now, let's just take it at their word that it was an accident. And just, I just want to tell everybody, man, that that water is nothing to play with. I don't really go once. Once I can't stand up. That's the far I really. I don't go too much farther than that when I I go to the beach. Once that water, if I'm walking out to that water and that water start hitting my like getting up to my neck, that's my limit and I don't like to go that far. I really like to go where it's about a little bit above my chest.
Speaker 1:Just because you know covering the news. I hear all of these stories and it ain't just famous people. You know covering the news. I hear all of these stories and it ain't just famous people. I'm hearing about people getting pulled by rip currents all the time and I don't even think you're safe. I mean, I think I don't know if it's happening in shallow water, but I've heard sometimes it's happening in shallow water. I don't know, but, um, I got friends that like to go way out. I got friends that like to go way out and swim and show how good they can swim. And they out there, where I don't know, the water may be 30. I don't know, maybe 30 feet deep, 15, 20, 15, 20, 30 feet deep deep. I don't play with that shit. You can call me a scaredy cat, you can call me a bitch. You know we always talk about each other, me and my friends. We are so competitive so, but that's not a peer pressure I'm ever succumbing to. I'm just saying too many stories like this one with Malcolm Jamal Warner of being swept out by Rip Curran and you did.
Speaker 1:C-tuck says Malcolm and Eddie was the shit and I definitely grew up on Kenan and Kel. Oh, here we go. Yeah, c-tuck, so you probably my brother's age, c-tuck, so you probably my brother's age. C-tuck, I ain't gonna age you, but you probably my little brother age, because he grew up on Kenan and Kel. And I don't know if you watched Malcolm and Eddie, but he definitely grew up on Kenan and Kel. But Wake and Bake Crew, malcolm and Eddie, but he definitely grew up on Kenan and Kel. Wake and Bake Crew. What's y'all thoughts on this water. Are y'all careful when y'all go out? Are y'all careful when y'all go out on that beach? Are y'all the type of people that go way out on the water and want to show everybody how good you can swim? Steph says the irony that a lot of his interviews are reals were about his legacy to his child. Yeah, yeah, just like man. Just like I said, one of the few.
Speaker 1:We didn't have no crazy scandals. We didn't have no crazy scandals. We didn't hear about Malcolm Jamal Warner using his position of power to manipulate women or manipulate men or manipulate people in general. We didn't hear none of that. We didn't even hear that. You know he did a lot of directing on shows. You didn't even hear that he was an asshole. And we got to all remember Malcolm Jamal Warner was famous from the time he was 14, on one of the biggest hit shows of all time. If anybody could have been an asshole, it could have been him. You didn't hear those stories. Like I said, everybody I hear about loved Malcolm Jamal Warner.
Speaker 1:But, like Melissa said, just what a nightmare. That's just the best way to describe it. You out with your family, you kicking it. And Steph says Flo, unlike you, I get so caught up in the emotion I put myself in a situation it hits us harder. Yes, yes, for sure. This is, this is, this is. And she says. She said I'm like you, you know, steph, steph, steph, steph always coming back with an edit. Well, we read it right. Yeah, we knew what you meant, steph. I knew exactly what you meant. No, I didn't change it back to 830. We 830. We came on at 830, tatum. No, we at 830 from here on out. We not going back to 730. We 8.30. We came on at 8.30, tatum. No, we at 8.30 from here on out. We not going back to 7.30.
Speaker 1:Did you change your time back to? Uh-uh? We at 8.30, tatum. We started at 8.30. Pretty much on the dot, maybe one minute behind, I don't know why. I was waiting on the Wi-Fi to load up, but we definitely started at 8.30 am and it will be 8.30.
Speaker 1:From now on, like I said, the 8.30 slot works so much, works so good, especially when you got a family, and it gives everybody a chance to either get out the house or it gives me a chance to do little things around the house or give people time to wake the hell up. I guess Juice is done with the, with this show juice has left the building. So, uh, but uh, I just want to. I just want everybody to undertow, I just want everybody to just respect. Oh, look look at nature. I look, I like that anitra super safe.
Speaker 1:And anitra say she ain't going past the hips. So let's, let's, let's do a poll in the chat. I want to see how safe the flow community is right now. What, when you go to the beach, how far do you go out, do you? Are you like anitra, where you go about, where the hips are you me? Where you go, chest neck is the apps, and I'm not even comfortable when I go out to where the water is up to my neck, but that is the absolute farthest I will go. Or are you one of those people that will go where the water is? Literally, if you stood up, the water is five to 10 to 15 feet above your head. Let me see what type, let me see what type of thrill seekers we got in the chat today. I want to see how far do y'all go out in the water when y'all go to the beach.
Speaker 1:Steph says she grew up in the water, all the water, the sea, ocean. I was taking under off a jet ski and the current just kept sucking me back under in San Diego. My face kept scraping. It's scary, but I respect it. Wow, steph, I'm sad to hear you went through that. I know that had to be scary. Thank God you made it out, okay.
Speaker 1:What did you say? What happened to you, melissa? This was back in 2013. I haven't been in the ocean since. Did I miss your story, melissa? Melissa, I didn't see. Did you tell a story about something happened to you? Oh, I think I hear it is. Is this you said you had a Baywatch moment. I don't know if you did. You tell us what happened. Like I said, how far do y'all go out in that water? I really just want to know what, what, what. Thank you for the super chat, lord Crawford. Thank you for the 499. I got to find it again. Thank you for the 499. Gotta find it again. Thank you for the 499 super chat.
Speaker 1:Me and my son will be eating today on laura and if anybody else feels in their heart to send us some super chats, we'll be eating. I'm going door. I'm going um door dashing with my son today, soon as he get his behind up, because he's a door. He got he Because he's a door dasher and I want to go door dashing today. I told him I was going to go door dashing right around with him today and I asked him how much he was going to pay me for being his assistant and he just got quiet. So I don't know what that means. I guess that means I ain't getting paid. But I told my son last night I'm going door dashing with him today. As soon as he get up today we gonna turn that app on and I'm about to. I want to deliver some food.
Speaker 1:I want people to see Flo pull up with their, with their, with their uh Chick-fil-a and their and their boss and their uh McDonald's and whatever else. Flo going to be your. If you door dash in Cleveland today, you might see me bring you your food. So if you door dash in Cleveland, don't be surprised if I pull up. So I told my son last night. I said hey, son, I said we door dashing in the morning, I'm going with you. He was like all right, cool. I said how much you going to pay me. I'm riding all day. He was like I'm like cat, got your tongue, but we'll see. So I guess I'm not getting paid, but oh yeah, I'll go live. I'll go live when we door dash Tracy. Tracy said do a live or two, I'll go live while I'm door dashing. Yeah, I'll go live while I door dash. That's a good idea. So what I need to do is make sure I got my phone all the way charged up. Okay, thank you, steph.
Speaker 1:Do you know it's taco Tuesday? You know we're going to be getting tacos. Matter of fact, we already know what we're getting, so thank you for the $4.99 super chat. She says get Juice, a toy or a taco and lots of kisses from Steph. Yeah, we definitely will get Juice. We're going to get Juice, a taco, I don't know. Get him a little doggy taco. Yeah, tatum, he went silent on me.
Speaker 1:I, I was like damn, sounds like. Rachel said, sounds like the daughter. Yeah, they don't want it. They don't want to give up their money. Do that? I said I'm gonna be a good worker. I, I'm going to take the food to them. I'm going to walk it to them.
Speaker 1:I've been door dashing my home. I've been door dashing Uber Eats and Postmates. I was doing that way before everybody, so I've been doing it. I'm talking about ordering the service. So I've been using that service for years. I'm so anxious to see and feel how it feels on the other side. I want to deliver the food. I want to pull up and see how it works.
Speaker 1:Yeah, melissa said Juice needs an I Love Flo shirt. Yep, that's a good idea. I'm going to get them one and have them put it on. Skip the dash. Somebody said who said skip the dashes in Cleveland, hold on. Anisha said skip the dashes in Cleveland, especially East Cleveland. No, we should be dashing. We're going to be dashing in the South Euclid, cleveland Heights, mayfield area.
Speaker 1:Sean, how far do you go in the water when you go to the beach, like when the water go to what Thighs? Oh, you. Even at least. My cousin said hips, I thought that was. Sean said that when the water go to her thigh, that's the farther she going. I said I go to my neck. Man, that water ain't nothing to play with. But yeah, we definitely going to be. If you in the Euclid Mayfield, if you in the Euclid Mayfield or South Euclid, cleveland Heights or Mayfield area, I might be your dasher. So don't be surprised if Flo pull up bringing you your McChicken and I will be live. Good idea, tracy, I'm definitely going live and I will be live. Good idea, tracy, I'm definitely going live.
Speaker 1:Libby said Flo yell at YouTube for me not having the join button so I can be a member. Yeah, why is Libby Bear not able to be a member? Y'all, I don't know. So y'all put me in the chat. Let's do a little freestyle.
Speaker 1:Is there any particular story that's sticking out that y'all want to talk about in the chat? There was a door dash. Oh yeah, skip the dishes. I forgot about that. Good one, good one, you right, you right about that. I forgot about that. Uh, what, what other particular story, or or, or, or something y'all want to cover? We could do it right now. So I'm looking in the chat. Whoever comes with the best story, we're going to cover that. But I guess, on the Malcolm Jamal Warner note, just want to say he was an actor, father, husband and a great man. He will be missed.
Speaker 1:Like I said, I can't help but reminisce about all those Thursday nights. And if y'all remember, if y'all true, if y'all true Cosby Show fans, y'all remember that time when we had the it's so hard to say when the Cosby Show was going off the air. The Cosby Show was going off the air and they did the final episode. Oh shoot, all this time I thought the power was plugged in, but they did the final episode and they did the. Boyz II Men did the. The Boyz II Men did the.
Speaker 1:It's so hard to say goodbye to the cosby show. Oh my god, we were all in tears. Everybody was in tears. My family was in tears, my school people. That final episode of the cosby show when they did them and they II Men.
Speaker 1:It's so Hard to Say Goodbye man. It wasn't a dry eye in Cleveland. Melissa says Boyz II Men was her first CD. Yeah, we used to love Boyz II Men, but that episode was crazy. On the final episode of the Cosby Show, yeah, and then that's why we got to keep our eyes and ears open. Then he says was it an accident? It feels like every time celebrities pass we find out later it wasn't what we were originally told. You just never know, especially knowing that he was fighting against the machine. Rudy's funeral with the fish. I remember that. I remember that that was a crazy episode when they had the funeral. You remember that? Laura, who all remembers that episode? Or the final Cosby episode with the.
Speaker 1:It's so hard to say goodbye, man. We were in tears because it wasn't even just like the show was going off, but it was like that's what me and my family did every Thursday night at 8 PM, like no more Thursday night. No, we would get food, would get pizza. We would get pizza from a touch of italy. Uh, if you're in cleveland or been to cleveland, you might have heard of a touch of italy, um, but we would get pizza from a touch of italy every Thursday and we would sit down and watch the Cosby show all together as a family. And I know that that was it. It was just a sad, sad, sad moment.
Speaker 1:But I'm hearing people want to talk about the cloud seed, and is that what we want to talk about? Oh yeah, look when Denise steal in the car to go to a concert with her silly friend. That was a good episode. That was a really good episode. Uh, childhood memories, for sure, for sure. Oh. So my uh, tatum tatum, said the same thing. I remember, remember, that was part of our routine. Cancel, yeah, I don't know. That's how I remember what day it was Thursday night.
Speaker 1:We used to watch the damn Cosby show every week 8 o'clock. Then it really turned up when we started watching, remember, a Different World started coming on, I think then it started coming on after the Cosby show. So basically you had an hour of the Cosbys, because Different World was just a spinoff of the Cosby show, so you used to see some of the characters on there. Of course you got a lot of Denise. So you used to see some of the characters on there, of course you got a lot of Denise. Just one of the best hour of TV of all time.
Speaker 1:Different world made me go to college, and not just me. A lot of people wanted to go to college because of A Different World, just a very impactful, uh, positive show. Now I want to get into all the stuff that kind of happened down the line with bill, you know, cosby. That's controversial right now. This is about malcolm jamal warner and the cosby show in a different world and how it impacted us.
Speaker 1:Um, yep, and then uh, also, um, speaking of a different world, remember, remember, yeah, no cable, just three, five and eight. No internet, no social media, no phones for the most part. I mean, back then if you had a phone, it came with a book bag and it was big and it Velcro and it plugged up and you only had 200 minutes allowed or your bill was going to be $1,000. I don't know if y'all remember the phones back then, but if you talked on that phone for more than 200 minutes a month, your bill was $1,000. So it was no phone, it was no distractions.
Speaker 1:Nowadays you do movie night and everybody like this Ain't nobody looking at the damn movie. But no, we do watch the movie and we do movie nights. But a lot of this generation. You do movie nights and everybody head looking into that phone. Everybody is in the phone. You got to talk to people in the phone, even if you right next to them. Sometimes you can get their attention and have better luck talking to their ass through the phone. You have a better time doing that than trying to ask them something in person. So this was the like I said. Take me back to the 90s and, if you're old enough, the 80s man. I miss those times. I miss those times. It was just it's a different vibe.
Speaker 1:Desi said no remote control. Damn, what year was that? Yeah, hey, look. Yanni said you were only allowed a certain number of texts a month. Yeah, you were only allowed a certain number of texts a month. Yeah, you were only allowed a certain amount of texts per month. It was like how many of y'all are old enough to know.
Speaker 1:When you came out with free nights and weekends, that changed the game. Motherfuckers was on their phone for the first time. With what? Because remember that, I don't know y'all commercial where they were talking about. We used to be tricking, uh, getting past the collect calls and instead of saying your name when it'd be like you have a collect call from and they used to say we got a baby, it's a boy, and it was just a delivery message that we had a baby and it's a boy, and it was just a delivery message that we had a baby and it's a boy. Well, with cell phones they're so expensive Cell phone calls like this hey man, I'll be there in five minutes. Like that was the whole conversation. Hey man, come pick me up. Like you didn't have no time to be on that you couldn't just be on there talking shooting the breeze. But when they dropped free nights and weekends, that was the first time when people started being able to be like don't call 9 o'clock after 9 pm, people be on that damn phone all night, but during the day that phone ain't no action. But them first time. Who old enough to remember when they came with free nights and weekends, that was game changer. Don't call my phone at no point. In the afternoon, you get 200 minutes for the whole month. During the day, but on the weekend and after 9 am you can talk ass off. A lot has changed. We had pages back there.
Speaker 1:Fire always say she stay away from beach waters, I can't deal you smart. So you? She say she don't even get in where she don't even let her feet. Oh, lily says she remember actual operators. I mean like you pick up the phone and you would say hey, connect me to someone, connect me to, and they would text you if, if you remember that you are OG. Oh, yeah, hey, so melissa, you remember, you remember. Uh, you remember. Uh, oh, my god, that's how I call for a ride home.
Speaker 1:Yeah, if you were super, duper cheap, like we were, or didn't have money, my collect call when I used to call my mom to come pick me from basketball practice. It'd be like I would call my mom and it would say you have a collect call from, come pick me up, and my mom would decline the call. And so every time instead of saying my name, when it'd be like when you do a collect call you gotta say it's a call from hello. I wouldn't say that because my mom won't pay him for no damn collect calls. So when I used to call collect, I said when they said what's your name, it'd be like you have a call from and be like come pick me up, and my mom would decline the collect call and then come to shaker to pick me up for basketball practice. So I think, melissa, if I'm reading message correct, you used to do the same thing. You call for a ride home but you just say come pick me up. You never said your name and all that.
Speaker 1:This is how we finessed the whole yeah and Tatum said man, I called before nine. Is you crazy Calling before nine? It's free after 9, before 9 I got nothing for you. Then came the free time from 7pm to 7 7am. Look at the progression y'all pay phones collect cards. Yes, y'all Pay phones. Terry Rossi, collect calls yes, damn, I forgot about that. Laying lines and waiting for 11pm to call long distance.
Speaker 1:I remember when Star hey, look, when Star67 came, I was about to say look, stefano, you was the slick one. You remember Star 6-7. Y'all was the people who wanted to call people. What about when Call ID came out Before Star 6-7, because Star 6-7 made it where people couldn't call you back. But remember when Call ID first came out, when you could call and you could see who the fuck was calling you, that was a huge thing. Then we, oh C-Tuck said nights and weekends start at 7pm was the game changer. Yeah, because that was like oh, now we free at 7pm, let's get it.
Speaker 1:Tatum, what you was doing with a pager and a Motorola. Tatum was a trapper. You know, back in the day, if you had a pager, you was the weed man. All the weed men had pagers. Yeah, yanni said you would stay up just to talk after nine. For sure, libby said she missed her pager. Yeah, pagers was cool because people come blow up your phone. All they can do is page you and you just got back to them whenever the fuck you wanted to.
Speaker 1:Cell phones kind of made it where you start being like people act like they owned you. Like I called you, like damn, you pay my cell phone bill. I got to answer every time you call. No, it don't matter that I'm doing shit. Star six, nine man.
Speaker 1:Star 6ix9ine got a lot of relationships. It was a lot of arguments and relationships behind Star 6ix9ine. I remember when we would call, like when a guy was cheating and a chick would call the house and she and, and she would hang up because the wife answered or the girlfriend, she star six nine, her ass, and that was the turn be like. I knew that was that bitch. I star six nine. Star six nine allowed you to call back the last person who called your damn phone. So many women have got women and men got caught up in the 80s and 90s behind that damn Star 6ix9ine. Star 6ix9ine wreaked havoc on Cleveland for sure. Star 6ix9ine had full-out wars going on. I don't know if y'all remember Star 6ix9ine, but Star 6ix9ine had full-out wars going on. I don't know if y'all remember Star 6ix9ine, but Star 6ix9ine was legendary.
Speaker 1:I remember cigarettes in the vending machine. See, tuck Tamahee remembers cigarettes in the vending machine. Hey, you remember cigarettes in the vending machine. You remember back in the day when times were so different, you could be seven years old and go to the store and buy cigarettes and beer for your mom or your auntie. All you had to have was a little letter that shit don't work, no more. I don't know if y'all remember that, but your auntie or your mom or your grandma would send you a little bitty ass. You be 10 years old. You going to get a pack of Newport 100s and a six pack of beer and the guy let you get it. All you had was a little letter saying hey, this is my son, let him get some beer for me. You can't do that shit, no more. They ain't going for them. Little written notes.
Speaker 1:But y'all, at the end of the day, the tragic loss of Malcolm Jamal Warner, aka Theo, everybody's brother, son, whatever, whatever, whatever you look at, he was that we lost him and it did make us remember some of the good times, the 80s shit. Some of y'all remember this in about the 60s. I don't remember the operators. Y'all got me beat somebody in the chat. They remember when operators connected your damn calls. I think that was the 60s, maybe the 70s, I don't know. But uh, it was a great time. No phones, no social media, no, none of that shit, just us bonding and actually talking to each other, not scrolling, no damn timeline.
Speaker 1:So if you drink one, if you're waking and baking this morning, put one up in the air for Malcolm Jamal Warner. And if you ain't waking and baking, if you're having a drink, take a shot for Malcolm Jamal Warner. Today I'm going to take a shot for him. My boy, theo, he blazed the trail, entrepreneur, actor, all of the above, and I just want to let y'all know it meant a lot to me. Okay, that was the 70s, appreciate it, and I'm glad, man know, meant a lot to me. Okay, that was the 70s. Appreciate it and I'm glad, man, that was a tough one for me but, like I said, I love being able to wake up in the morning and know that I got a family and a community that I could talk about. We could go through these tragic moments together.
Speaker 1:Tomorrow we will be back to the regularly scheduled program talking about all the drama. Back to the regularly scheduled program, talking about all the drama, talking about, probably, diddy Trump, epstein, cloud Seeding, whatever the hell is going on. We will be talking about it tomorrow, but today I wanted to give Malcolm Jamal Warner, aka Theo, his proper respect and give him his time and dedicate aka Theo his proper respect and give him his time and dedicate this show to a great actor, a great person, a great father, a great husband, malcolm Jamal Warner, aka Theo. Mr Gordon Gartrell, thanks. Y'all.
Speaker 1:Raised one in the air. Hey, like, like, like, uh, like lauren said raise, appreciate that. Lauren said she raised her joint in the air for malcolm jamal warner. Thank you, laura. And uh, everybody else, let's get to I'm out. Let's get some rest in peace. Uh, malcolm in the chat. Rest in peace, malcolm and I'm out. Let's get that. Let's add the Rest in peace, malcolm and I'm out. Let's get that. Let's add the rest in peace, Malcolm to the I'm outs today. In honor of his memory and showing respect for his family.
Speaker 1:Libby Bear says fly high, malcolm. God needed another angel. Thank you for that. Libby Bear. Tracy says you guys be safe, keep your eyes open and stay hydrated. Love you all. Love you too, tracy. Angie says Theo was one of my first crushes. Aw, look at Theo. C-tuck says I'm out, rest up. Malcolm. Lily says I'm out. Peace and love, rip Malcolm. Libby Bear says rest in peace. Malcolm Lily says I'm out. Peace and love, rip Malcolm. Libby Bear says rest in peace Malcolm. Yes, I appreciate y'all for giving Malcolm his respect and I'm glad to see he meant as much to you as he did to me, and I will definitely continue to make sure that's what really happened. But, as I always say, tomorrow we back to our regularly scheduled program, back to the drama, back to calling motherfuckers out, back to doing what we do. But I appreciate you joining me in this episode that was dedicated to somebody who really influenced me and really impacted my life Malcolm Jamal Warner, aka Theo. As always, I love y'all but I'm out.
